Main Feature Section
The Octopus Mechanical drive can be installed on any vessel that has a mechanical push pull cable steering systems i.e. Rotary or Rack and Pinion. This type of steering is typically seen on boats 25 - 35 feet. This is where we find the largest demographic of boat owners. Most owners in this demographic would "love" to have an autopilot, especially the ones that do a lot of fishing. For most walk in customers at a dealership, they are usually given the recommendation of having to convert their steering to hydraulic before an autopilot is put in which increases the cost by about $2000.00 and a customer is usually turned off and walks away. This equates to LOST SALES!!!
SOLUTION: Because the Octopus Behind the Dashboard Autopilot Drive does not need a boat's steering system to convert to hydraulic - You now have a better chance of an autopilot sales pitch to your customer as it makes it more affordable for your customer to have one. A typical system (drive and electronics) can now be had at around $2000.00 Installation is simple as it requires removing the existing manual helm and simply putting in the Octopus drive in its place. The only limitation is that a 10" depth is required to fit the drive. If space is an issue then our Type R Drive discussed in the last Newsletter will be recommended instead. TYPICAL INSTALLATION:
Rudder Feedback mechanism: As with the Type R Autopilot Drive, RFB installation is quite simple as it is mounted directly to the drive itself. COMPATIBILITY All Octopus Autopilot Drives are compatible with all the major Autopilot brands.
